Part of The Muses, a collection of ten works exploring ten distinct emotions and states of mind, Muse II is the startled muse — caught in the instant when something unexpected breaks through the familiar.
She embodies surprise before it has had time to become fear, curiosity or understanding. It is a split second of heightened awareness, when the senses sharpen and the world suddenly feels closer, louder and more immediate.
There is vulnerability in that moment, but also extraordinary presence. To be startled is to be pulled completely into the now, stripped for an instant of control, preparation and expectation.
Muse II explores this brief interruption of certainty — the moment when the inner world is shaken awake. She is alert, exposed and suspended between what was known a second ago and whatever comes next.
