At St. Paraskeva (October 14) the shepherds and their flocks return to the village. The sheep are chosen and given to the masters, and the shepherds receive their wages.
Also, today weather forecasts are made depending on how the sky is at the moment, and according to the way sheep sleep: it’s said that if they sleep tightly huddled together, the winter will be harsh, long and cold. If the sheep sleep separate one of another, then the cold season will be mild.
Saint Pious Paraskeva is reputed as the bringer of abundant rains, generating good, ripe fruits, being the jester of plowmen and the protector of the waters, and her image as icons is often present near rivers or wells, giving the waters the power of healing.
